Scoring Summary

Milton came out strong and aggressive and Central surrendered two goals early in the half.  However the boys rose to the challenge and clawed their way back into the game.  In the 23' Luke O'Neill was able to dance around in the Milton 18 and draw a foul.  He buried the shot low and right in the resulting PK, halving the deficit.  Immediately after halftime, the Falcons went on the attack quickly threading the ball through the Milton defense.  In the 46' Seth Seybert drilled a ball passed the keeper from just left of the penalty spot.

Both team continue to create chances in a cagey and chippy game but the scoreline remained level.

Notable Performances/Comments:

Milton is undoubtedly a good team.  Coming into this game they've scored 10 goals and surrendered none.  Their quality was apparent from the opening whistle in the way that they were able to attack.  They definitely threw the gauntlet at us and we had to answer.

After a couple of tactical adjustments we were better able to withstand their attack and create our chances.  I asked a lot of Tevin Pielhau, a young sophomore player, to clog space in the midfield against players who are bigger and faster and he delivered in spades.  The defensive unit really held strong once Tevin was brought in.

My back four really played like their lives were on the line and delivered a strong game.  The back four of Morgan Clark, Lucas Wysiatko, Kamdyn Christiansen, and Trent Rudd really do put in heroic efforts.

Our starting keeper re-injured himself and so Chase Erickson was asked to step up again.  He delivered a quality game with a couple of clutch saves and punches over the top bar.

I'm especially proud of my boys for putting two dents in the armor of a high quality team.  We were the first team this season to score against Milton in open play.  That speaks volumes about both their quality and our grit.
