Mary Meyers (Haske), Class of 1983
Mary Meyers is one of the most decorated female runners in Central history. While attending Central she excelled in both girls’ cross country and track. To date, Mary still holds the school record in the 3200 Meter Run with a time of 11:27.5. Despite holding the school record in track, what she accomplished in cross country was even more impressive. By the time that she finished her cross country running career for the Falcons, Mary was a four-time conference champion and state qualifier. In total, Mary beat 567 runners and only lost to two runners excluding the WIAA State Meet. She was the champion of 11 meets and the runner-up in another 11 meets.
After graduating from CHS, Mary attended Murray State University in Kentucky on a cross country scholarship. Missing her family and friends, she decided to move back to the area after one year of running for the Racers. After moving back to the area she served as both an assistant track and cross country coach until 1991. Mary married her high school sweetheart Gary Meyers, and they had three children together. Robert and Austin both followed in their mother’s footsteps by running cross country and track for Central. While her daughter Lindsey played volleyball and soccer. Mary continues to walk more than ten miles per day and works as a mail carrier in Burlington.
