John Zeihen, Class of 1962

While attending Central High School, John Zeihen was a standout athlete who earned letters in basketball and baseball. John was a member of some of the most successful boys’ basketball teams in CHS history. This included the 1962 team that went undefeated during the regular season before being defeated by Beloit Memorial in the WIAA Tournament. At that time there was only one division in the state of Wisconsin for high school basketball, so it wasn’t uncommon for schools to play another school with double to triple its enrollment. The 1962 team was 14-0 in conference, won 20 straight games and finished the regular season with a record of 18-0.

Following his graduation from Central, John attended St. Norbert College in DePere, Wisconsin and earned an Accounting degree. He played collegiate basketball for the Green Knights and was a three-year letter winner. While at St. Norbert College John competed in the National NAIA Tournament in 1965 and was elected team captain in 1966. After graduating from St. Norbert College John enlisted in the U.S. Navy in January of 1967. He completed Officer Candidate School with the rank of Ensign. John served four years as a naval officer and completed his duty in November of 1970. He was honorably discharged with the rank of lieutenant. Following his service to his country he joined the civilian work force.
